Thanks! It is not a specific character from the book. The game company wanted a non specific salt wife for the game but the idea of a salt wife is from the books.
In the show Theon has one while he is on his way to the Iron Isles but they are usually taken by force.

The way you illustrate this card tells me that you took a woman's perspective.
It's like "Personal Concubine" : A male illustrator might have focused on the man and made the woman an accesory but you did the opposite and that's refreshing.
I Like the spirit of this illustration : even bloodied and draged away, her eyes say that she is not defeated

Thanks! I tried to avoid making her "sexy". I want the viewer to empathize with her but also know that she is not finished.
Thanks so much!!

Amazing picture. This whole scene made me want to kill Theon. What came later just strengthened that urge.

It looks like they made her totaly drunk, but she still didn't want to go, so they gave her a knockout. This is so damn sad!

They beat her up to take her to the ship. It is what the people of the Iron Islands do in Westeros. :(

Thanks!

In A Song of Ice and Fire series a Salt Wife is a woman taken on board a ship as a sex slave for one of the high ranking crew members (usually the captain). Sometimes they are taken by force, some by semi-choice but it is not a good thing. This is common practice for the people of the Iron Islands in Westeros.

I love-love-love this picture. XD Her expression is awesome, and I love how perfect the anatomy is. The ocean and the ship in the background is cool, too, with the clouds floating along the horizon. Awesome job. This needs a DD, I think.

It's two Ironmen(Viking/pirate islanders) from George R. R. Martin's ASOIAF-universe, making off with a girl from the mainland, to make her a "saltwife". "Saltwives" are women taken from the mainland to serve as thralls on the Iron Islands. An Ironborn can only have one true wife -an other Ironborn, preferably- but one can have several saltwives. Saltwives must be stolen on raids, however, one does not buy or sell thralls.

This is the description the art director gave me:
A young woman is being dragged from a coastal cabin by a pair of Greyjoy sailors. The girls father is locked in a sword fight with another sailor, and her brothers have already been killed, fighting in the yard. A dog nips in vain at the heels of one of the sailors "escorting" the woman to their ship. The emphasis of the piece is the girls herself, the rest is all background and context, and there should be a look of defiant resolve in her eyes. She can't fight this now, but that will not always be the case.

All of your illustrations are beautiful, but this one really jumped out at me! I'm not sure why. I think it's the detail in her face, and her expression. Yep, that's it, the eyes. ^^ Really wonderful quality of work, here. :D Hope I'm that good, someday. ^^

You do such wonderful work, and your ASoIaF illustrations are spot on in my eyes! I can hardly believe that you've been on dA for two and a half years and only have 2000+ pageviews. O.O Your work is spectacular!

That explains a lot. Though not everything. :D

Great stuff! ^^ I also like the style for the CCG. I was approached by FFG last year to do a couple of cards; but I think it would have been a hassle all round - my style isn't exactly what they're looking for, and I wasn't in the mood to go painterly. It was a pity I missed the opportunity, but maybe it returns. :)

It made me very happy to see your very unique style on the cards, realistic but with a very nice, very personal touch to it.

Woo! I get the first comment! I love this piece of work. I've only just in the last week started reading these books, I'll have to come back when I am further in and see if I can pinpoint what scene this is :D
